Publishing Baloney

Paperbacks, eBooks, hardcovers… yeah, baby talk dirty to me. Don your latex, ladies because today we’re going to be discussing the gushing world of publishing. Buckle up your strap on, and lube on up, we’re going to get dirty as we talk about why there is so very much crap being published, read and sold.

Frustrated. Yep, that’s me. I read the blurb on the back of a book, check out the ratings on Goodreads and Amazon.com and get all tingly and excited at the possibilities that a book may possess, only to open up to the first page, read a couple of lines and feel like I’m with a guy who has just prematurely ejaculated in my face. Sure, it’s okay baby, I’ll give you another chance. Translation, I’ll read a couple more chapters just to make sure it doesn’t get better, but lately, every 6 out of 10 books I’ve read I’ve been unable to finish, because they have been so bad. That’s like having sex and not having an orgasm, what’s the point? So, no, I’m not sexually frustrated, I’m literarily frustrated. I manage to bash out a book on average, once a day, so with the way I’ve been going, that is a fuckload of books that have been garbage, and in my opinion, should never have seen the light of day. So, self-published books aside, why is it that the publishing houses are continuing to flood the market with what they deem ‘good reads’? I get that there’s money involved, it’s a business, that makes sense. But, when the market is so flooded in shit, that you can’t even trust reputable websites or Best Seller lists for a decent read, you’d think that they’d be even more picky about the books that they choose to represent their brand.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that you’re trying to find a good story in a genre where that doesn’t exist.

Erotica, is word sex - with a dash of, “this character needs this sex to feel whole” but we can’t tell you why, because that would insinuate some type of fucking character story, and that can’t happen because this is about sex.

Erotica = sex.
You can try to add some substance, and the book can proclaim to have story and be good, but I mean, let’s think about this. If there was too much story development would it be erotica?

Also, try researching these publishers. Look at their track record and who their company is. Chances are, if they are a small company, they have small time editors and therefore, they are looking for anything and everything they can to publish in hopes that they have the next E.L. James.

I’m mean when a publisher rates it’s books by it’s “sizzle”, what do you really expect?

This book is a great story because the erotica is awesome, said no one ever.

See, I’m going to sound like I’m contradicting myself here now, but I’m going to have to disagree with you Madame. With Erotica, it is possible that there can be a great story and great sex. As you know, there is a great series that Gypsy, The Wench and I all thoroughly enjoyed so much that it kinda actually brought us together, not to mention that in my opinion there are plenty of erotica books out there that I have thoroughly enjoyed and did actually earn their place on the bestseller lists. But it was more the romance industry as a whole that I was referring too, rather than just erotica. I mean, the market was so flooded that they had to create a new sub-genre recently - New Adult - which is just ridiculous. Now they’re just adding more and more on the pile.

Also, I’m not sure if I mentioned this in my opening post, but majority of the books I was referring to were by big 4 publishers, hence my perpetual what-the-fuck indignation.

No, you’re right, they are out there. But if you take the amount of books that are being published by any publisher in that side of the industry, and compare it to the amount of those that have become best sellers, the odds of finding as good as a story as the one that brought you ladies together are against you.

That isn’t only because of the publisher either. You have to remember who really dictates the numbers. You, and other readers. Don’t forget that it’s called “bestseller” list, not, “a great book” list. There is a huge difference. There are tons of things, written, invented, created and patent every single day that are great products, yet, never see the potential that could have been.

And I think the new genre is needed. According to rwa.org in a survey they did in 2012 the most likely age of Romance was between 30 to 54. That leaves a huge gap in the market that needs to be filled.

No, you didn’t mention, you also didn’t clarify as to which genre you were referring to. As sexual as your opening post was, and taking in consideration what I see you read on your Goodreads, I assumed you were referring to erotica.

I’m curious as to who the top four publishers you’re talking about.

Also, I took this directly from rwa.org. I found it interesting.

I’d love to read a good romantic suspense.

Sex is a part of romance isn't it? Can help it, if I like it a little more than most???

This is where I admit that I use the Preview feature on Amazon.com, which is brilliant because it's usually in the first thirty percent of the book that I'll know if I like it or not. I don't know if clicking that little button goes towards sales numbers or not, but if I read and it sucks then I'm not going to buy it, and I'd want to hope that it makes no difference about best seller numbers. So, yes there are probably many people out there who do buy before they try and end up helping the shit at the top of best seller lists grow, but I try not to add to those numbers, and I encourage our readers to do the same!

As for the big four, after a phone call, The Wench has informed me that Penguin and Random House are now the same company, but out of the latest reads that I have detested lately, they have been published by Pan Macmillan, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Random House and Penguin or their subsidiaries. If you would like a list of the books and who they were published by, let me know, the list is a long one.

I do find it interesting that rwa.org found that most readers are between 30-54. I'm not surprised that this age group would be the largest group, I just always thought that the Young Adult age group might've trumped it. And even though I'm not 30 yet, I hope to do the group proud when I get there.

The graph is also very enlightening, it shows that the things I like to read aren't filling up the market as much as I thought. I'm not a fan of romantic suspense, I do read contemporary romance, and the rest, minus the Christian romance are the sub genres that I love and spend a lot of time reading, fuck who am I kidding? I spend all my time reading them, so shoot me. I'm not going to apologize, I just wish there was better written stories and story lines out there.

Can I just take a moment here to point out that Romance and Erotica are two different genres. Seriously. Porn is not the same as a Rom Com in the film world, and it’s not in a written format either.

While I only read erotical limitedly, I will attest that the majority of it is crap. Which is why I stick with a few distinct authors if I’m in the mood for something hawt. Mainly, because I’m looking for something that has more than sex. If I’m looking for straight sex, then sorry ladies, visual porn is one thousand times better.

In the romance genre I find it even harder to discover a good book. Admittedly, my reading tastes have changed and I’ll admit I’m pretty damn picky, but I am blown away by the crap that is being published. The romance market has been flooded with every woman, and her cat, thinking they can write romance. As a result there are publishers all fucking over putting out crap just to make a buck. Sure the bigger names are weeding out a lot more, however they are adding to the crap pile as well.

I discussed this influx recently with an author friend of mine, and we tend to think that this is a phase. Until the next big thing comes along, we’re stuck on this ride. However, the next big thing will come and this genre will shrink back to size, and hopefully return to quality over quantity.

That is not to say that good excellent books are not being published in these genres. They are out there, it’s just harder to find them. Though, when you do find them, you cherish them that much more. To prove my point, I’ll recommend: For romance, The Rosie Project by Graham Simpson and for a great erotica series look no further than Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha.

I’m pretty sure those publishing companies don’t publish erotica/erotica romance, but have smaller companies that do. There is a difference, and not just for names sake. I’d bet my left tit, down to the money they sink into a book, is different. Unless of course it’s written by a best selling author. And Wench, I thought so. Lady Scarlett was confusing me, but sometimes when it comes to the genres of Romance and/or Erotica I feel unqualified to give an opinion as I haven’t read nearly as many as you beautiful bitches.

Visual porn is WAY BETTER, I agree.

Clarify the phase. You mean that you tend to believe that the mass publishing of erotica will phase out? I’m not sure I agree with that. Whenever anything is considered a taboo-ish behavior, it’s never phased out. People said the same thing about BDSM, but it still lives. It may not be as public, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there, and that thousands aren’t still practicing it.

Quality will always be an acquired taste. No matter the genre.

I cannot disagree with the Beyond series by Kit Rocha. I do enjoy those books and as of right now the only erotica books I recommend to anyone.

I am one of those readers that is easy to please. I really am. I don’t care if the book I’m currently reading is similar in storyline to one I’ve read before because lets be honest in erotica/romance the outcome is, for the most part, the same. I just want solid characters that I can connect with and not want to bash upside the head with my reading device as well as world that I can get lost in for a few hours. But I’d say in the last few months it’s been harder for me to find new authors that have me waiting with baited breath for the next installment. There have been a couple, Kit Rocha’s Beyond series is definitely one of them and surprisingly enough a self published series, but for the most part they’ve been, at best, mediocre.

While I agree that the publishing houses are seemingly more interested in trying to one up each other in finding the next hot author so are not investing the time, money and effort into finding quality authors, I’m not too sure we'll be seeing the end of this “gush” anytime soon. This isn’t to say that it won’t end, or slow down eventually, but with sites like Goodreads.com, the shit ton of romance review blogging sites, most of which tend to only post gushing reviews, and lets face it, everyone and their dog, cat and baby on Facebook promoting their favorite authors, I just don’t foresee a dam of conscious quality control being erected anytime soon.

I don’t think we’ll be seeing the end of it anytime soon either, Gypsy, but that is because it’s unlikely. The math says so.

According to Wiki:

  • The United States (2011) 292,037 (new titles and editions) were published.
  • The United Kingdom (2011) 149,800 (new) were published.
  • In Australia (2004) 8,602 titles were published.

And that is only three countries of 124 listed. In just these 3 that is 450+ thousand books published on average. (Australia’s number is probably higher, but 2004 was the last the total was reported.) And look at how many books reach a mass market, and cross the borders of language and land, you’ll see how small the number is of actually finding the next really good book.

I also agree with you about one story sounding a lot like the others, and the ending evolving to the same, no matter how different the character names are from the others. I think fiction in general is this way. But I’m down with that, because my saying is, Art Inspires Art. That also means, fiction inspire fiction. Good solid characters are important. I have to at least like one to carry me through the book. The setting/world is second important, because people/characters naturally are a product of their environment. I read Kit Rocha’s books because I love the type of world that she portray in her book. If she got rid of that, or it got better, I’d stop reading. They’re not strong enough, in story, to hold my attention.

And I very much agree with you about facebook. I won't support, brag, pimp or gush over any author that I don’t like their work. That shit is false advertisement. They should be sued for lying about the books and leading me to believe their friend or they, themselves has written something great. And I’m going to stop right there, because that my friend is another subject to discuss for another time.

The Night Circus

Because we are all readers, we decided to start monthly book discussions. As an introduction, we picked The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern as our very first book. These are our opinions and in no way, shape, or form do we credit them as reviews and/or critique. Just some good old-fashioned blabber mouthing.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

Okay, I am going to make this short, simple, and to the point; if you don’t like this book, you’re a fucking chode. This book IS a five star book.

A great story should carry you off into something that isn’t familiar; it should offer you a chance at a different perception than your own. This book does that, it most certainly did for me. Let’s not forget how well written it is. Her execution of all three 1st, 2nd, and 3rd POV is brilliant and adds to the depth of the story.

I’m so glad I downloaded this book despite the bad reviews. I feel like people who don’t see how good this book is, and/or nitpick it, are unimaginative and not worthy of a good story.

My only issues with this book is the way it plays with time, and how descriptive the author is from time to time. I hate over description, however, Erin did a good enough job that NOT ONCE did it slow me down, or upset the flow of the story from paragraph to paragraph, page to page.

While my stance isn’t as strong as Vail’s is in regards to whether you like the book or not, I must agree that the book is a five star book.

This book does exactly what what Vail says. It takes you into the unfamiliar, while allowing you to keep a toe in the familiar, and gets you to question just what is “real” which is always a great feat in any story.

The 2nd POV threw me a little since it’s not a perspective I’m used to reading but after awhile I didn’t even notice her bouncing from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. That was how well thought out and written this book was. It flowed and I just went along with it.

Well, call me a Chode!!! While I did enjoy the story, the elements of the world and the characters, I HATED the style of writing!!! I know I'm going to cop a shit load of flak from the other whores for this, but I cannot stand to read a second person POV. Once I got through those parts and it kept jumping all over the place with dates and times and places, I kept on having to go back and work out where the hell I was up to and who we were reading about at a specific time. Now, this is nothing against the author, but I'm clearly not an intellectual reader. As far as I'm concerned the only saving grace for this book was the world and the love story element.

This book is a piece of art. From beginning to end it’s one epic, magical tale that is like no other. I was pulled into the story from the first page, every moment was pure awesomeness.

It was so well written that I didn’t notice the switches between point of view. The transitions between past and present were integrated seamlessly and kept the story moving instead of stunting the momentum.

I have not read anything so beautiful as The Night Circus. I agree with Madame and Gypsy, it’s a five star book. Why this book is not a global best seller is beyond me. To look at other books that are selling crazy numbers worldwide in comparison to this one makes me sad for humanity. If you haven’t read this book, fucking get a copy. You will be richer for having read it.

The world in this book was, by far, is my favorite character. The whole world is made of magic and that is why, Lady Scarlett, I’m really shocked that you didn’t like it. We’ve discussed how we both love fairytales. This book was exactly that down to the, bound to be together, love story.

It does pull you in, that is what is unique about second POV. That is what it’s supposed to do. Address you, the reader, and invite you in. There is no, through the eyes of anyone, she allows you to see with your own. Immediately she begins to build a picture.

I agree with Scuddlecunt. If you haven’t read the book, you need to get a copy. Especially if you enjoy a well thought out, beautifully written, magical, fairytale.

Vail, I did enjoy the world created, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters as well and, like I said, the mystical and magical elements. The thing that brought it all down for me was the thing that you all agree was amazing...the writing. As I said before, I'm clearly not an intellectual reader, but I just couldn't stop focusing on the way the writing style would jump from second, first and third. I struggled to focus and connect with the characters the way I wanted to, the way I needed to to fully immerse myself in this story. The more I think about it, the more I tend to agree with you about the world being my favorite character, cause though it is not a living, breathing thing, it was the only thing I could recognize without having to go back and work out who the fuck I was reading about at each particular point.

Another thing that aggravated me, which it admit for those who know me will think is highly ironic, is the amount of description that went into everything. Again, I know the other whores will no doubt disagree with me, but there were a lot of sections where things such as meals were needlessly over described. I agree, for things such as the clock, the tents or the circus itself, but there were so many other elements such as coats, buckles etc that we're just over done. Or perhaps not done the right way.

I know I will be showing my trashy romance side here as far as taste levels go, but I still would only award this book between 3-3.5 stars.

I didn’t feel that the book was over descriptive. In comparison to a lot of other books out there, it’s was balanced. Though in the author’s defence, a lot of things did need detailed description for the reader to feel as though they were surrounded by the magic of the circus.

The ice garden was my favourite. The intricacies of that tent could not have been brushed over. It required delicate detail that was exquisitely executed.

The dinners, as Scarlett mentions, needed to be over the top. That was the entire point of those scenes. They were lavish beyond comparison. A highlights reel of these events would not have had the same impact. This book is a true example of show, not tell. The author showed us through the magic of words the world she had created. To tell would have been to sell this story short.

I personally did not find the amount of description to be overdone as a whole. I will admit that there were sections where I wanted the descriptive portion to end so that we could move on, but when looking at the novel as a whole it was necessary and am in agreement with the Wench. The author was not telling us, but showing us what was going on. Including us, if you will allow, in the scene so that we could smell, see and taste it all as if we were there.

While I found the ice garden amazing, my favorite was Widgets tent. We didn’t get to spend much time there, but what a wonderful way to be able to save and revisit a memory.

I loooved Widgets tent! The entire book had to be as descriptive as it was. The circus needed the details because the circus itself was a character. Each of those tents were add-on via magic, which was the entire point of the story. There were parts where I just wanted to move on from something she described. That being said, even with all the details, I read every single word. I didn't skip not one.

I'm a circus freak, so there wasn't anything in circus I didn't love, but I favored the front gate. That moment when you first walk in. You look around and try to absorb everything at once, but the truth is, in The Night Circus there is so much it's impossible to do it in one single night.

The giant clock was my immediate draw, from the moment it was mentioned. I wanted to climb inside and hide.

I read this book to my small human, and I will read it to my grandkids, I loved it that much.

If this whore ever spawns offspring, then I too shall read it to pass along the beauty of this creation. This book has become my favourite of all time, knocking other books of the pedestal. No story has made me feel as much pure joy as this story did.

A tale of two roosters, NOT hens.

Cunty McBoobies, her timeless tale. She is torn between two strapping and dominant men. Long Jock Silver has a soft heart, and firm hands. While, Dollar Bill, not only has deep pockets, and could take care of her, but also a multiple of other charming qualities. Oh, what a world! What will she do? Who will she chose?

I have to say, I am very curious about this. It’s something I’ve always questioned, and therefore, I’ve asked the whores to discuss it with me. All of them are better versed in the romance and erotica field. They have all read ten times more than me.

I haven’t read a lot of romance, or erotica, I’ll admit that. Those genres are not my go to fiction. I’ll also admit, I love a good fictional love triangle, there is no doubt about that, but why is it most are female leads who are stuck with a CHOICE between two males? Why isn’t there more storylines of a man who has a choice of two females being written?

Oh fuck Vail. You made me choke on and spit out my special brand of happy juice. Cunt McBoobies? Now if that ain’t a fucking brilliant name for a porn star.

But as an avid reader of erotica, porn or my least favorite new title “Mommy Porn” I have read and enjoyed my fair share of menages. Whether it be where the woman gets sexed up by both in an effort for her to only choose one, or she gets both in the end and I heartily believe that there are more stories about two males and one female because the mass majority of women who read the genre love the idea of a woman having to choose between two men.

This particular brand of smex gives the woman the power and makes the men step up, whether it be in bed ~ where most issues work themselves out when it comes to the erotica genre ~ or in doing the silly, simple things that make a woman feel special.

It’s all about the fantasy of a man wanting and willing to do whatever it takes to prove to the woman that she is his everything. His sunshine. His reason for living. And of course the only woman his cock will ever get rock hard for.

“Mommy porn”, way to label a literature genre, fuckers. That chaps my ass. In our last post we spoke about labels and here we find there is yet another label to contend with. Only, I bet this one is worn proudly by the women that bear it. So, let me get this straight, it’s not okay if we call you a whore, but it’s totally okay to read a genre of literature known as, "mommy porn"?

Let me stop, before I get off subject.

You’re saying that women would rather read, and fantasize about having the choice than being the chosen? Sure seems that way with the volume of F/M/M books out there. And I find that absolutely interesting.

I think Gypsy hit the nail on the head, it’s because the majority of readers of the genre are women. There is certainly a larger number of women who will be all over the idea of two men pleasing her, than a man and another woman.

Personally, I enjoy the female figure. I’m happy to watch porn where a woman is being pleasured by a man, my reading in the erotica genre tends to lean the same way. Generally I will read a menage, however I won’t seek them out. Regardless of how many women are, or are not, involved.

I think the concept has been grossly over fictionalised. There was a time where I read, and enjoyed them. It was more of a novelty. Now I just roll my eyes at the unrealistic aspects of it. Fucking around is one thing, but the HEA involving the three-way/four-way? Whores please. I think we’ve gone well off the deep end and got lost in the sexual fantasy realm.

Books with two women, and one man wouldn’t sell. It’s that simple. The genre is targeted directly at hetrosexual women. They won’t buy the books if there is an over balance on the female side. Fiction is a business. Always remember that.

I think the point of erotica IS sexual fantasy. Also, can I please point out that a menage means members of a household, and therefore a menage a trois is three people who LIVE TOGETHER, having sex with each other.

I agree Wench, most of the time I find I roll my eyes at erotica until my fucking head hurts. At least porn don’t paint some weird, pretty picture about the business of sex and the act of it. I mean lets face it, I don’t care how loose a woman is, when a guy shoves his thingy up your buttocks, it’s a surprise.

When I read the opener at the top, I did think you were talking about me, then I of course, read on…

As you all know, I’m an obsessive reader of this type of literature. And though we shouldn’t put a label on it, “Mommy Porn” is exactly what it is. It’s apparently more socially acceptable for women with a husband and children to read and use a vibrator to get off than it is for her to sit in front of a computer screen and watch it whilst fingering herself -- Which is a whole other topic that I’m not going to get into, but as for the whole M/F/M love triangle or ménage; it is like Gypsy and Scuttlecunt said, the idea of a woman being so lusted after that her pussy must be made of the finest whiskey and her breasts pour the best brewed beer a man will ever taste or desire. That they simply cannot function without being able to think of how tight her cunt and/or ass is around their cock, this is according to the market, what women wish to read. And since majority of readers are women, and majority of romance/erotica authors are women, it seems to be that this is the trend.

However, I’m currently reading a story that is F/M/F, not in a true ménage sense, but in the sense that they hook up with this stripper every now and then, and I have to say that it’s freakin’ hot and refreshing for someone like me who has had those kinds of experiences. And let’s face it, most group sex scenes are usually two chicks and a dick. I guess it’s the same as why males in books are portrayed the way they are. It’s all a fantasy, a bedtime story for women to dream about, cause the reality is that if two men were both vying for my attention, sure, I’d propose a three way, but the reality would be that they’d both probably get seriously pissed off and either bash the shit out of each other (which, yes, I admit, would be a turn on) or leave in disgust whilst muttering about what a slut I am. Either which way, give me more F/M/F stories I say!!!

I really don’t like the term ‘Mommy Porn’. Why? Because the romance and erotica industry spend their time trying to remove stigma, and labels. The genre has a taboo about it. I often find writers ranting on social media about how they are oppressed for being erotica writers. About how their writing is considered second class because of its genre.

Yet here we are with a self made label. I’m not arguing the porn aspect, but in all honesty ‘mommy’ doesn’t even truly represent the readers of the genre. If this industry wants to stop being judged, then they need to stop judging themselves.

To rewind just a bit to Madame Vail’s “So you’re saying that women would rather read, and fantasize about having the choice than being the chosen? Sure seems that way with the volume of F/M/M books out there. And I find that absolutely interesting.”
It is, but think about it. The woman in the F/M/M situation has already been told/shown by the men that she is their choice, so now she gets to make the final decision, which of course leads to much inner emotional turmoil that can be grating on ones nerves depending on how the author handles it, but in the end she ends up with the ultimate power. That is the fantasy.

Lady Scarlett I think you’ll need to pass along that book you’re reading.

And I am in full agreement that “Mommy” is definitely not a true representation at all, hence why I hate that fucking term. I may not wave my “I read erotica” flag for everyone to see but if you ask me what I’m reading I’ll tell you straight up. And if they get that stupid fucking “Oh” look on their faces as if they can’t believe I actually owned up to reading the genre, I offer to send ‘em a copy.

I don’t feel like there is any shame in it. I may purchase most of my vast erotica collection as ebooks, but if I end up falling in love with the story I’ll go out and buy it, in person, not online, with a big ass smile on my face.

Scuddlecunt, I don’t think it’s the industry that is putting the label on themselves, as much as I think it’s the readers. I think the label is hideous. Can I add how fucking creepy it is to have the words mommy and porn back-to-back. It is disgusting, and the person who thought of it first should be smacked with a dictionary. It should cost them at least a row of teeth.

And I don’t agree with Lady Scarlett. I don’t think the women who read erotica feel it’s okay to masturbate with their free hand. I mean, call me stupid, but I didn’t realize we live in a world where masturbating one way is more acceptable than another. I was always under the impression as long as you were NOT in public, all systems are go.

I guess I get it. A storyline with a woman who has a choice between two men is more appealing emotionally, and sexually, than a man with a choice of two women. And that was a very valid point, Gypsy. I clearly didn’t see it that way.

From a sexual standpoint, two cocks is too many in my book. Directing two at once I imagine is like working in a room full of toddlers. Because really, both men knowing exactly what to do, and where. . . that is the real fiction.

PS: Scarlette, a whisky tasting vagina and beer pouring from a womans tits wouldn’t be appealing to anyone, but a fucking alcoholic. EW!

A whore, or not a whore. . . that is this discussion.

Welcome dear reader into our inner womb. Here at the Whorebag Express we have a very important topic to address first up. Now a word of warning, this blog isn’t going to be like others. For we have four whores that are more than willing to excrete the truth on any and all subjects. This topic, like many, will be a discussion amongst us all. So grab a bottle of rum, and tune your nipple clamps to our channel.

Obviously we have a whoreish theme here, because we are all whores in our own ways. This is what unites us all. The word is not an insult to the women who author this blog, however society as a whole still views the word as derogatory. Why is that? Why is it that a woman is labeled a ‘whore’ when she takes men into her slickness without the confines of a relationship, and men don’t?

I don’t call myself a feminist. I’m not interested in the pendulum swinging from men, to women on social issues. Rather, for a standard of behavioural acception for all. If having multiple sexual partners is shunned upon (which it shouldn’t be, but we’ll save that for another day) then why is it only women who take the heat for it? Men are patted on the back, cheered and revered amongst their peers for promiscuous behaviour.

I think it’s up to us, the whoreish women, and all women to make a change to societies views. We need to own our sexuality and be proud of that side of ourselves just as we are with academic achievements. Yes I love sex. Why buy the sailor, when I can just enjoy his rum balls?

Yes, Wench, this is still a problem. However, I don’t believe it to be as big of a problem as it used to. I believe that casual sex (depending on where you live and who your peers are) is more socially acceptable today, than it was only ten years ago - for both men and women.

Although, the literal meaning of the word is prostitute, it isn’t necessarily used that way. I find I use it in the terms of someone having, or enjoying, an excess of something. People refer to themselves as various types of whores. Book whores, are people who love books, have many and/or read a lot of them. (Like all of us here on this blog) People whores, are over social people who have a lot of friends and/or need a large social circle. There are many more and I’m not the only one who use these terms. So, as you can see, the use of the word has changed.

Stereotypes, racism, discrimination, all that and more, will be around as long as we (the humans) are around. The ability to speak is the one thing we have that no other species has. It’s what sets us apart. The ability to form words is one of our great accomplishments, yet, can be used as harsh weapons. I think the trick is to not let these words bother us, and assume the roles others try to put us in. Because we’ll never be able to change their opinion and beliefs.

Well, maybe in a few thousands of years. . . SIKE!

In other words, you’re only that dirty whore if you want to be. I say, if you want to be a whore, be a whore. Just don’t be stupid, protect yourself, and understand the consequences of your actions. Because you’re the one who lives with the reflection. If you can sleep with ten dudes in a day, and look at yourself in the mirror at the end of it, who cares what the fuck others think? Your conscience is personal to you, and therefore, so is your shame.

Besides, if we want to get to the root, it’s not our problem (us whores) anyway. It’s men’s issues. They created whores. Fuckers.

Hi, my name is Madame Elizabeth Vail and I’m a book whore, food whore, coffee whore, and headache medicine whore (just to name a few) and fucking okay with that.

The age old debate.

Why are women called whores when they sleep around, but men are not?

Many have debated this question over the years, but what I believe it comes down to at the end of the day after looking at the cultural, moral and religious perspectives is plain old fear not only by men but women as well.

To make it simple: A woman who owns her sexuality and revels in it, is a threat.

She is a threat to a male because no male wants to be compared to another and found to be lacking. In technique. In stamina and definitely not in size. Though that can be a debate for another day. When most males find themselves in the presence of a woman who is experienced and knows what gets her off, they tend to deflate. So they call her a whore to soothe and pet their own egos.

Now on the flip side. I do believe that in this day and age most females can respect a woman who chooses to experience all she can on her own terms, but for those who are unable to they are also at fault for continuing the age old tradition of calling a woman a whore. They are threatened by her because she holds knowledge that they don’t and in most cases are afraid to go after themselves but instead of admitting it and giving the woman props and hell even taking the time to get to know her and see what it is about that makes her that strong, they call her a whore to make themselves feel better and effectively “Put her in her place” at the bottom of the barrel when really they are at the bottom.

I agree with my sisters in whoredom, there is nothing wrong with taking the bull by the horns and living your life the way you want. Hell I praise and give props to those that do without apology, just be safe whilst pursuing that which brings you pleasure. You only have one life and one body so protect yourself, don’t fuck with it by playing russian roulette with your health because in the end the only person you can blame for it’s demise is yourself.

I love that you used the word ‘threat’, Gypsy. That is a large part of it. Women have always loved to judge and put down each other. As Madame said, men created the word, so women have jumped on that wagon as fast as they can to use it as a weapon against each other.

‘Whore’ is just one of many labels that are used for sexuality. There’s a whole gambit that is used to place an individual in one box or another. I for one am against these labels, period. Sexuality doesn’t need to be tagged with a name. It’s fluid and changes with each person as they grow, mature, and experience. What a person needs/desires at each point in their life is different. These labels are never one size fits all. Do away with the labels, my fellow whores. You are a sexual being, isn’t that enough?

Sure, society is a lot more understanding of these labels than they have been in the past. But that still doesn’t change the fact that a lot still have a derogatory connotation attached. Madame made a good point about shame being an internal thing, I agree whoreheartedly with that. Only I can feel my shame, I am the one in charge of whether I accept or despise a behaviour of mine.

Sorry, Gypsy, there is no discussion; size does matter!

And I can’t say I agree with the “threat” thing. Not anymore. I believe that the liberation of women has without a doubt, surged the power of the pussy. The porn industry is evident of that. Look at erotica. Both, are all about the sexual beast that is. . . woman.

RAWR!

And lets be real, the hate for women who are promiscuous has to come from other women, because no man in their right fucking mind would really want to do away with prostitution and/or porn.

That is what I meant, Wench, when I said that men created them. I wasn’t speaking in terms of the word itself, although it could very well be a man that created the word, I was talking about the industry. It’s no secret that men pay more for sex than a women ever will. We don’t really need to. My theory: Men needed another warm, wet place to stick their dicks. Women got tired of giving the shit up for free. And TA DA! Prostitutes/ whores were born.

Whores have to exist, without them, I can’t use kick ass insults like, vagina peddler, curb jockey, the walking laid, and so many more. HA! I mean, who the fuck else are we going to throw pennies at?

I know, horrible joke. What can I say, I AM that type of woman. I’d totally be a pimp if it was a legal trade in the state I live in.

Why Madam, that doesn’t surprise me in the least, although that could be because, I myself am a self-proclaimed retired whore. I have throughout the years had my share of boudoir (and not so boudoir) encounters. I have had one on one encounters as well as multiple partner experiences and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Some people might be ashamed about this kind of behaviour, others might brush it off as the impetuousness of youth, but me? Nope, I’m neither ashamed nor brushing off my past. In actuality, I’m kinda proud of it. I may have been labelled a whore because I like sex, but it has never bothered me. If anything, I’d say it’s a compliment. I can’t understand the irrational and somewhat convoluted stigma that comes along with being labelled a whore.

I read a lot. I’m talking about a whole lot. I’m more than a little obsessed with it, throwing myself into some magical, mystical fairy tale of drama and sex with a happily ever after thrown in at the end. In fact if it has romance and sex, then I’m interested, but through all the books I’ve read, the women who are painted as or called whores are always the women who are strong, know what they want and will go after it determinedly, with passion out the wazoo. Sure, like most women they have insecurities and issues, something in their pasts that led them on this journey that some people seem to believe is self-harming, but the thing I love is that they never apologize for who or what they are. They don’t let the small mindedness of other’s opinions veer them from flaunting their sexuality and confidence.

Call me naïve, small minded or plain dumb if you wish, but if being strong, independent, passionate, sexually adventurous, tenacious and confident are the qualities of being a whore, then hell, sign me up! Isn’t that how we’re supposed to raise our children these days? To be fearless, know what they want and go after it? To be proud of who they are and where they come from and to be accepting of others? Yes, I may be using fictional examples, but even in the real world, friends and people I know who have been tagged with that stigma still have all those same qualities that I admire and wish to pass on to my own daughter.

We’re always told to do the things you love, well some of us love sex. In sex, like with everything else in the world there are a minority, a majority and those in between, some people get emotions confused with sex, some need emotions to be involved to enjoy sex, and others just plain enjoy the physical act. Personally, I’m a mix of the last two. Sometimes I just want to do it, raw, animalistic and hard, others I need the softer emotional side, but the point I’m trying to get across here is that not everyone who is labelled a whore goes out and gets laid to feel like they're loved or whole or just to feel anything at all. But, once again, I’m brought around to the contradiction of being labelled a whore. I mean, we’re told to do the things we love, but those of us who love sexual and sensual play are called whores. It just seems like we’re sending double messages out here. Which is it? Do what you love or do what society believes is appropriate? Personally, I’m going to do what I love and lets face it, I love me some cock.

People are stupid and they confuse the word whore with slut. A whore is smart, and gets paid for her vagina. A slut sucks cock in the back of a pickup truck going fifty miles an hour, and walks away broke and hungry.

Lady Scarlet, I love you, you slut. :P Also, bring on the rough and dirty.

In The Beginning.

There were four valuable opinions. Well, four women with valuable opinions. NO, scratch that, four women who valued their own, and each other's opinions. Voila! Yes,that's it.

They are catty, pretentious bitches. Their names are: Scuddlecunt (the Wench), Lady Scarlet, Black Rose Gypsy, and Madame Vailed. The Wench lives in a house made of bricks and blood, while Lady Scarlet loves her house of sticks and bones. Black Rose travels the world in her vardo made of souls. From time to time they meet up and plot a scheming plan at the circus that Madame holds dear.

Together they are Madame and the Whorebag Express.
